Total weight loss, to date
29kg (63.9lb / 4st 7.9lb)

That’s a reduction of 26.4% of my starting body weight
Muscle Mass and Fat Mass remained stable at 78.5% and 17.2% respectively.
Lean Mass is now up to 83% and my Basal Metabollic Age is now down to 51. I am aiming to get that to below 50 by the time I reach my 56th birthday in exactly four weeks time.

PULL training session with Matty – Barbell row 50kg, assisted pull-up, upwards seated row, lat pull down, bicep curls, core exercises (russian twists, half crunches)

No additional gym classes for the time being

No ParkRun this week due to a trip down to the Jaguar Breakfast Club at the British Motor Museum in Warwickshire.

But on the way back up the M6 I took the opportunity to visit JD Gym at Newcastle-under-Lyme for a cardio and sauna session.

Treadmill is taking a bit of a rest with my cardio switching to the rowing machine. An early morning visit to the gym ahead of a family funeral.

The first training session of the week with my PT – PUSH training session with Matty – Incline bench press, wide chest press, shoulder press, tricep curl machine, SkiERG/Press Up superset, core (russian twists/flutter kicks)

LEG training session with Matty – Barbell squat, lunges, hyperextensions, rdl, core (flutter kicks, crunches)

Following my New Years Day ParkRun and the knee niggle in the final 1km, I had a consultation with my GP. Coach Ken had already suggested it was likely to be patellar tendinitis – a common soft tissue injury which can cause pain in the tendon below the knee cap – and this was confirmed by my doctor. A referal for physio and some pain relief were prescribed. ParkRun and treadmill will be off my list of activities for the next few weeks but my other training activities remain unaffected, whilst being careful not to put to much pressure on my knee.

From the doctors surgery I went straight to the gym, and plonked myself down on a rowing machine with a great view overlooking the freeweights zone. I feel no knee pain when using the rowing machine and it is a great full body exercise.

I’ll be taking a break from the JD Burn classes as these include exercises which are performed mainly standing (SkiERG, dumbbell shoulder press, step-ups, etc). Whilst these classes are undoubtedly great to do, it’s best to not put too much load on my knee at this point in my recovery.

So, instead I did another late afternoon session on the rowing machine.

My third training session of the week is on Saturday 13 January at a different location. Matt also PT’s at the nearby Ribby Hall Hotel and Spa and for this session I’ll be getting a taste of their “luxurious” surroundings.
